One Tree Hill is a local nature reserve in SE23. It is owned and managed by the London Borough of Southwark on behalf of the people of South London and beyond.
- The organisation shall be known as the Friends of One Tree Hill (FrOTH).
- The objectives of FrOTH fall into three broad areas: ecology, liaison and engagement. FroTH aims: to protect and enhance the ecology of OneTree Hill; to serve as a point of liaison between different stakeholders; and to engage with the local community, encouraging appreciation and involvement, and consolidating a sense of collective ownership of the site.
- The Friends of One Tree Hill is a non-hierarchical collective, committed to inclusion and opposed to gatekeeping in any form. Within this, certain friends take on named roles for administrative and bureaucratic reasons.
- Membership is open to all who support the objectives of the Constitution. Those who subscribe to the FrOTH mailing list will be deemed to be supporters of these aims. Local MPs and Ward Councillors will be offered honorary membership.
- An Annual General Meeting shall be held each year and shall be called after 1 month’s written notice to all subscribing members. There will be no more than 15 months between meetings.
- Classes of membership and their rates of annual subscription are set out below. Subscription rates can be varied with due notice and agreed at the AGM.
- The following officers shall be elected at each AGM: Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
- No officer may remain in the same office for longer than three years unless this is agreed at an AGM. The Committee of the Friends of One Tree Hill comprises the officers plus up to 4 other members selected at the AGM.
- The Committee may co-opt any number of non-voting members. The quorum of the committee is 3 voting members.
- Local stakeholder groups – e.g., One Tree Hill Allotment Society, St Augustine’s Church, London Wildlife Trust and Southwark Parks Department – will be invited to send representatives to the Committee. Other local groups can request representation on the Committee, which will be decided on a case by case basis.
- Decisions taken shall give due consideration to the privacy and security of those living or working adjacent to One Tree Hill.
- The financial year ends on the last day of March.
- Accounts for the past year shall be presented to the AGM.
- An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) may be called by the Officers, Committee or at the written request of ten members after two weeks’ notice.
- This constitution may be amended, after two weeks’ written notice to all members, by a motion passed by two thirds of those in attendance at the AGM or EGM.
- Should the Friends of One Tree Hill cease to exist any residual assets shall be spent on One Tree Hill nature reserve and records be deposited with the Southwark Local Studies Library.
