Writing short pieces inspired by nature, we’ll consider the role of nature writing in highlighting impacts on wildlife around One Tree Hill.
Saturday 1 March, 11.30am-1.30pm
St Augustine Community Room, One Tree Hill, Honor Oak Park, SE23 3LE
What will happen?
This relaxed two-hour writing workshop will focus on the other species that live alongside us in London. As well as writing short pieces inspired by nearby nature, we’ll consider who or what has an impact on the wildlife around One Tree Hill, and the role of nature writing in highlighting those impacts. Weather permitting, we’ll also spend some time outside experiencing nearby nature.
Who is it for?
The workshop is primarily aimed at those who are new to nature writing but all aged 16+ are welcome. The group will be limited to 15 participants.
Who is leading it?
The workshop leader is Ruth Bradshaw, a local writer whose work has been published in a variety of websites and journals including Elsewhere, The Clearing and Nation Cymru. She also publishes a regular newsletter called Stories of Coexistence in which she writes about urban wildlife, conservation volunteering and nature writing.
What else do I need to know?
Participants will be contacted a few days before the workshop to provide them with the excerpts we’ll be discussing. You should bring your own writing materials. Please dress appropriately for going outside, including sturdy footwear. The workshop will take place in the St Augustine Community Room, where hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.
How do I register?
You can sign up here on Eventbrite. To keep it as open as possible, we are asking for pay-what-you-can donations, rather than fixed price tickets. Our suggested contribution is £15.
